Trauma/PTSD

“Trauma is not the event but the wound” – Dr. Gabor Maté

Gabor Maté, the Canadian Psychiatrist and Trauma expert, created an approach called Compassionate Inquiry for healing trauma.  This is the primary modality I use in approaching trauma with clients.  We look at your trauma with compassionate curiosity, often beginning with adverse childhood experiences and how attachment issues from your  childhood may be impacting current relationships.  As you become aware of times you disconnected from your authentic self in your childhood, we work on how to reconnect with your true self.

“Attachment is the drive to pursue and preserve closeness and contact with others.  The loss of attachment figures or their physical or emotional unavailability threatens the child’s sense of security and selfhood.”  – Dr. Gabor Mate

Traumas  that may occur later in life, often trigger these childhood traumas and the suffering is immense.  Therapy can help alleviate some of this pain and move towards understanding and healing.
